Providence is calling a Monitor Technician - Unit Secretary (0.6 FTE, Days) to Providence Newberg Medical Center in Newberg, OR.
We are seeking for a Monitor Technician - Unit Secretary who will assist the lead/staff nurse, nursing supervisor and unit manager in planning, implementing and evaluating the activities in the nursing station by performing clerical and receptionist duties. Functions as a member of the nursing team by observing cardiac telemetry monitor and reporting cardiac arrhythmias to the registered nurse. Prepares, compiles and maintains patient records.An employee in this job classification is routinely involved with a potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes and must use appropriate measures and protective equipment (tasks and protective equipment are listed in the department infection control manual) in accordance with the hospital's OR-OSHA blood borne pathogen regulations.
In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
Complete all mandatory inservices. Participates in hospital disaster preparedness activities.
Follow hospital policies related to safety/security.
Attend and participate in unit meetings.
Demonstrate competency by completing and achieving passing scores on annual department specific competencies.
Participate in Nursing Education inservices to maintain knowledge in work areas.
Respond to identified patient emergencies following leader's direction to assure timely and effective response.
Flexible and able to adapt to the changing patient needs in the unit. Prioritizes, plans and organizes work.
Inform oncoming staff of unfinished or incomplete tasks/treatments or unmet patient/family needs. Minimal use of overtime to complete shift.
Participate in establishment of unit's Quality Improvement program. Assists with data collection and analysis.
Verbalize impact of quality improvement activity on patient care.
Maintain sufficient quantity of forms, supplies and assembled charts.
Appropriately prioritize physician orders.
Notify ancillary departments when appropriate.
File and transcribe clinical information.
Keep consistent watch on cardiac telemetry monitor.
Keep alarm on at all times unless patient is out of department.
Recognize basic arrhythmias and reports rhythm changes promptly.
Answer unit telephone and intercom immediately. Manages unit communication to facilitate efficient patient care.
Update greaseboard continually. Informs team members of patient requests, phone calls and special orders.
Offer to assist with all desk activities such as locating charts, copying papers.
Use supply responsibly and accurately charges for materials and services.
Respond to the needs of units during scheduling and/or staffing variances.
Respond to criticism by effecting an appropriate change in behavior.
Comply with the dress code for Providence Newberg Hospital whenever acting in the role of employee.
Keep abreast of information presented in Communication Book and Meeting Minutes.
Accurately input information, orders and charges into the computer.
Required qualification for this position include:
High School diploma or equivalent
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire
Telemetry Certification or equivalent completed within orientation period.
Must have good penmanship
Knowledge of medical terminology.
